Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Formally Separate

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie filed papers for a legal separation earlier this month in Los Angeles, California. The couple never married, but lived together while raising their six children.


The separation itself seems to be at least somewhat amicable; both Pitt and Jolie will keep their respective fortunes and have agreed that the six children will live with Jolie while Pitt will have full visitation

Pitt and Jolie met while filming the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Pitt was with Jennifer Aniston at the time, but apparently fell in love with Jolie during the filming of the movie and soon left Aniston for her.

In recent years, rumors have swirled around the couple, often referred to as 'Brangelina', and a recent National Enquirer report alleged that they had a very public fight in a New York City restaurant in early January.

While the couple has lived under a very harsh spotlight and lived with a very high profile, they have seemingly made a point to provide loving home for their children; three of whom are adopted.

The biggest question on many observers minds will be if Pitt and Aniston may be headed for a reconciliation. During the Haiti telethon on Friday night, the former glamour couple were seen spending time together backstage. By all accounts, they have remained on reasonably good terms, though Aniston seemed to have a difficult time finding and maintaining relationship after Pitt left her.

For her part, Jolie has appeared very thin recently and some rumors have developed over her mental health. The National Enquirer report, in fact, said that the night of the argument in New York, Pitt had tried to get her to seek professional counseling.
