TEHRAN -- Iranian architect Kurosh Farzami, who is mostly known for his design of the main gate of the University of Tehran, passed away at the age of 73.
The news was reported by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). However, IRIB gave no other details about his death.
Farzami was a graduate of the University of Tehran and his design for UT’s main gate was selected from among many designs produced by students after a call by the then dean of the UT.
The design depicts two surreal birds spreading their wings to take off. The wings symbolize knowledge, which is essential for students who apply to or graduate from the university.
Iran published an image of the gate on the 500-rial banknote after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
The gate has previously been registered on the National Cultural Heritage List.
In 1978, Farzami founded the Archen Consulting Engineers Company, which has completed many architectural projects in Iran.
