Two Iranian brothers in trouble

Arrests: Robert and Vincent Tchenguiz are

caught up in Britain's biggest ever fraud probe

Robert Tchenguiz (Persian: رابرت چنگیز), born 9 September 1960, and his older brother, Vincent Tchenguiz, are British-Iranian businessmen.

The brothers were born in Tehran to an Iranian Jewish family. Their family had taken refuge in Iran, as they were forced to flee neighboring Iraq after the State of Israel was created. Father Victor is believed to have changed the family name from "Kedorie" to "Tchenguiz" - Persian for 'Genghis' after migrating to Iran. The brothers eventually emigrated to Britain in 1979 when the Shah of Iran was deposed.

The brothers at one stage held large percentage shares in businesses such as Sainsbury's, SCi, Mitchells & Butlers and many more, however the financial turmoil of 2008 led to the liquidation of most of these positions and majority of their capital reserves. Throughout the 2000s, Robert Tchenguiz has retained his majority shareholding in construction software business, Asite Ltd.

In 2003, Robert Tchenguiz started an investment company with his friend Guy Dellal, the son of the property financier "Black Jack" Dellal.

On 9th March 2011, Robert and Vincent Tchenguiz were arrested in London by the UK's Serious Fraud Office as part of their ongoing investigation in conjunction with Iceland's Special Prosecutor’s Office into the collapse of Icelandic Bank Kaupthing
